Find out more about our multifaceted host:
Where were you born and raised?
I was born at Forest General and have lived in the area all my life...
Sumrall, Hattiesburg, Petal and Ellisville
Marital status? Married for 24 years Husband’s name? James Hubbard, aka Dr. Pepper
Children? If so, how many? Names and ages?
I have never given birth but I had 2 step children, Chris (45), Jennifer (deceased)
Name of your business? Pepper's Parties, Too!
How long have had this business? The original business was developed in 1996 as a home party plan that led to an unplanned store out of our house for 20 years. 8 years ago we opened our brick and mortar in Hattiesburg as Pepper's Parties, Too!
What is your business known for? Sexual health and wellness. We also focus on relationship enhancement.
What entrepreneur blog/podcast/book do you find most inspiring? (Or if you’d rather: What resource has helped you the most in the area of career development?) I learn the most from my industry shows, actually attending showroom floors, meeting manufacturers and hearing the stories about how their products were developed. We also have panel discussions at industry events where other business owners share their keys to success. At first I just soaked it all up, now I'm one of the leading experts in my field. I've also learned a lot from Ducky Doolittle, Elevate U training, and Sunny Megatron. Non industry for financial, I'm a huge Dave Ramsey fan.
What do you feel are the keys to your success? I'm an extremely dedicated and hard worker. My party plan was successful because I never cancelled shows unless I was in the hospital or at a funeral. I always give the best customer service possible and make sure my customers know that they're special. My staff says I spoil the customers.
How do you define success? Success for me would be when I can finally leave the daily operations and let my staff run most things. Then I'll start my next career(s).
When you look back at your life, how do you want to be remembered? When I had my brain aneurysm I thought my purpose in life was my work. So many people reached out to me and told me how I'd made a difference in their relationships, several telling me that I'd saved their marriage. That's really satisfying but I'd like to be remembered for so much more, someone who's kind, caring and loving with lots of integrity. I also love to help people have fun!
What do you find yourself doing that you said you’d never do? I chose to not have children at an early age, however, we raised our grandkids for a year. Never thought I'd be responsible for another human.
What is your greatest fear? Snakes but also failure
What is the weirdest job you’ve ever had? For 10 years I was a race official for the IndyCar series. I'm the very first woman to put on a fire suit and work over the wall with the cars as an official. One of my jobs was "Pucking" the cars! I would lay on the ground while the car rolled over me and then I would put 4 pucks on the bottom of the car. I also had to inspect the bottom of the skid plate. When the car would roll onto the tech pad the 4 points were the level plane for measurements, as the bottoms of the cars are not flat.
What would most people be surprised to find out about you? I'm a really good home chef and I even grown lots of my own herbs and veggies. Also I'm first born American in my family. My mom and grandmother came to the United States from England via the Queen Mary after WWII. I had the opportunity to stay in the exact room that they came into this country! We were working with IndyCar and the boat has been turned into a hotel at Long Beach Harbor, CA where we stayed for a night!
When you have free time, what do you enjoy doing? Hanging out at the lake.
What is on your bucket/wish list for the next five years?
We want to sell our home in Ellisville and build 2 cabins, one near
Sumrall to be close to home and the store and the other on our
lake property, Lake Martin, Alabama
What are you currently watching on Netflix?
I rarely watch tv. The last series we watched was Sons of Anarchy 2013
What is your favorite quote?
Getting old sucks and it's not for wussies, but the alternative sucks even worse.
Life is short and you never know when it's your last so make the most of it!
Make sure your loved ones know how much you love them.
If Hollywood made a move about your life, who would be cast to play you?
